Datasets on the Content of Preferential Trade Agreements

1. Deep Trade Agreements database 1.0 (horizontal depth)

This dataset maps the coverage of 52 selected policy areas in PTAs notified at WTO signed between 1958 and 2022. It also includes information about legal enforceability of each policy area. This dataset captures the extensive margin of the content of Deep trade agreements.

2. Deep Trade Agreements database 2.0 (vertical depth)

This database provides detailed information on the content of a sub-sample of eighteen policy areas most frequently covered in a set of agreements currently notified to the WTO between 1958 and 2022. For each agreement, the database covers the stated objectives and substantive commitments, as well as aspects relating to transparency, procedures and enforcement. This database represents the most comprehensive effort in terms of the coverage of policy areas and the granularity of information within each area. This database is the result of collaboration with experts in different policy areas from academia and from other international organizations such as the ITC, OECD, UNCTAD, and WTO.

COVID-19 Trade Policy Database: Food and Medical Products

The database collects information on trade policy changes affecting medical and food products since the beginning of 2020. Its aim is to document the cumulative resort to trade policies and changes across countries over time.

Database on COVID-19 Trade Flows and Policies

This dataset summarizes statistics for (1) food and food-related products and (2) a sub-set of key medical supplies, which have been identified by the WHO as key to deal with the coronavirus crisis. The data show trade flows and trade policies across countries and products at different levels of aggregation.

Dataset on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) specific trade concerns:

The WTO also maintains a database of STCs raised by WTO members in the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Committee. This is available in a searchable format in the SPS Information Management System. The database is also available in excel format here.

Dataset on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) specific trade concerns:

A dataset on specific trade concerns (STCs) raised by WTO members in the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee is available from the WTO website. The dataset contains information on 318 STCs raised from 1995 to 2011 at the Harmonized System (HS), Revision 2, four-digit level. Each STC corresponds to a concern about a TBT measure maintained by one or more WTO members on one or more products.
